It is a disease that occurs in the form of a rash on various body parts due to transmission of a parasite called Sarcoptes scabiei. Irresistable itching peaks at night and especially in hot weather.
It is transmitted from person to person by direct contact. For this reason, if a person has scabies, family members and friends with whom he is in close contact are also very likely to have it. Ointments and creams are applied to pacify the parasite. Family members should also apply them.

How is Scabies Treated?

People who are in close contact with an infected person should wear a mask, gloves, and abstain from using the patient’s belongings. Once diagnosed with scabies, bed linens, quilts, pillows, clothes of the infected person should be washed in hot water.
You can keep the infected belongings in a firmly closed bag for 72 hours to pacify the scabies mites as they are unable to survive longer than 72 hours outside human body.
Creams, lotions and pills are usually used for treatment. Your doctor decides which of these medications is suitable. Usually the following drugs are used;
- Creams containing permethrin
- Sulfuric creams
- Lotions containing lindane
- Creams containing crotamiton
- Benzyl benzonate lotions
